When someone searches for “agricultural drone rental”, they usually mean one of two things: renting a drone to operate themselves, or hiring a service where our pilot comes to the parcel and does the work. These are very different options. This article explains the difference, when each one pays off, and roughly what it costs.
Renting a “bare” drone vs. a piloted service
Renting the drone alone (without a pilot) rarely makes sense for agricultural drones. An agri-drone is not a consumer aircraft: it needs a trained operator, registration with the Croatian Civil Aviation Agency (HACZ), knowledge of flight rules, and experience with mission planning, RTK and image processing. Without those, you lose time and get poor results.
A piloted service means we arrive with the drone and equipment, carry out the imaging, mapping or foliar feeding, and hand you the result. It is the most common and safest arrangement, because you don’t have to buy, learn or register anything.
When a piloted service pays off
- For occasional or seasonal jobs — a few flights a year don’t justify buying a drone and training.
- When you want the result, not the equipment — a parcel map, an NDVI report, or completed feeding.
- On demanding terrain — terraces, karst, islands — where the pilot’s experience makes the difference.
Buying your own drone only starts to pay off with large, regular areas and someone ready to complete training and take on operator registration.
What it costs
For larger or repeat jobs, a day rate is the most economical:
- Half-day from €450 (up to ~10 ha or several nearby parcels)
- Full day from €850 (large or remote areas, grouped visits)
- For smaller parcels we charge per hectare with a €120 minimum call-out (waived above 3 ha), plus €0.80/km beyond 30 km

What’s included
A day or half-day includes travel, preparation and flight, the service itself (mapping, NDVI monitoring or foliar feeding), and a short report with recommendations. Materials (e.g. foliar fertiliser) and travel beyond 30 km are charged separately.
Important: there is no (legal) rental for pesticide spraying
Some “drone rental for spraying” enquiries are about pesticide protection. That is currently not legally permitted in Croatia — a drone applying pesticides is legally treated as an aircraft. So we don’t offer it, either as a rental or with a pilot. Read more about the rules on the aerial protection page. Conclusion
For most growers in Dalmatia a piloted service is simpler, cheaper and safer than renting and operating yourself — especially on terraced, hard-to-reach parcels.
